Data Analytics for Innovation and SustainabilitY
The DAISY International Summer School (Data Analytics for Innovation and Sustainability) is an advanced training program designed for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scholars interested in the empirical analysis of innovation and sustainability. The school focuses on the data, methods, and applications used in contemporary academic research on innovation dynamics and sustainable development.
Recent advances in data availability and analytical techniques have profoundly transformed empirical research in economics. At the same time, innovation and sustainability have become central topics in both academic and policy debates. DAISY responds to these developments by offering a coherent training program that explicitly connects data sources, empirical methods, and applications in recent academic papers.
A core component of the school is its focus on innovation and sustainability data, including patent and other innovation data, firm-level and industry-level datasets, sustainability indicators, and increasingly important sources such as text and other unstructured data. Participants will learn how these data are constructed, accessed, and prepared for empirical analysis, and how to assess their strengths and limitations.
The program also introduces participants to modern empirical methods widely used in frontier research, including econometric techniques for causal inference, machine learning tools, and text analysis methods. Rather than emphasizing abstract theory, DAISY focuses on how these methods are applied in practice to address concrete research questions.
A distinctive feature of DAISY is its strong orientation toward applications and academic papers. Lectures and hands-on sessions are closely linked to recent contributions in leading journals, allowing participants to engage directly with real research examples and empirical strategies. The program combines lectures, practical sessions, and interactive discussions in an international and collaborative learning environment.
